Man questioned over baby's murder

A man has been arrested and is being questioned about the murder of a 14-week-old baby boy.The child was initially taken to Antrim Area Hospital with a number of injuries earlier this week.He was then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he died on Saturday.Police have said they are treating the death as murder and are questioning a 24-year-old man. Teenager dies in flooding crash

A 17-year-old girl has died after a 4X4 car left a flooded forestry track and overturned into a river in Powys.A man in the vehicle had to walk several miles to a farm to raise the alarm after Friday's incident near the Llyn Brianne reservoir.Hundreds are mopping up after four inches of rain fell in 48 hours but problems eased on Saturday.The teenager who died near the Powys-Ceredigion border was a tourist from the south east of England.She was airlifted to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth - along with a male and another female suffering from hypothermia.Three helicopters were used in the rescue on a remote forestry track north of Llyn Brianne reservoir. England struck by flash flooding

Heavy rain is causing flash floods across the Midlands and northern England, as storms continue for a second day across swathes of the UK.West Mercia police have reported flooding in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.The Environment Agency says Morpeth in Northumberland is under water, but flood waters are receding in Wales where one person was killed on Friday.The Agency has issued more than 100 flood warnings in England and Wales.Six of these are severe - all in north-east England.The Environment Agency has warned of an increased threat of flooding as rainwater drains into river systems.About 50 properties in the Stanners area of Morpeth have been evacuated as heavy rain continued causing water in the River Wansbeck to rise. The prime minister has been accused of letting Scottish households "plunge into fuel poverty" by not acting to address rising energy prices.It comes after Gordon Brown told business leaders in Glasgow he had decided a one-off cash rebate would only be a gimmick.First Minister Alex Salmond said the windfall gains of energy giants should be used to help people with bills.Mr Brown has indicated the focus should be on improving energy efficiency.Mr Salmond said this showed the prime minister was out of touch with real people. Body found in burning car in park

A body has been found in a burning car at a beauty spot in County Down.The vehicle was reported on fire in Crawfordsburn Country Park at about midday on Thursday. The body was then discovered inside the vehicle.Police have not said if the dead person was a man or a woman. Sastre stays in yellow as Burghardt earns first stage win

The Team Columbia rider Marcus Burghardt, who helped Britain's Mark Cavendish to four stage wins, today earned some glory of his own with victory in the 18th stage of the Tour de France. Race leader Carlos Sastre finished in the peloton about seven minutes behind Burghardt and retains possession of the yellow jersey. The main group also included the Australian rider Cadel Evans, who remains favourite for overall success.

The German Burghardt sprinted clear of Spanish rider Carlos Barredo in the final stretch of the stage from Bourg D'Oisans to Saint Etienne after the two had led a breakaway from the peloton. Ngog completes move to Anfield

Liverpool have made their sixth signing of the summer with the capture of the French striker David Ngog from Paris St Germain. The 19-year-old has signed a four-year deal at Anfield and follows Philipp Degen, Andrea Dossena, Diego Cavalieri, Vincent Weijl and Emmanuel Mendy to the club.

The Anfield club described the forward as "one of the brightest young talents in French football" and "lightening quick", although Ngog, the cousin of the former Newcastle defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, managed just one goal in 18 matches for PSG last season. The fee is reported to be £1.5m.
